Category The work is complete and supported by meaningful and relevant evidence The work is mostly good, but it’s either incomplete or has minor mistakes The work has major mistakes, or several key parts are missing There is no work, or the work violates the laws of nature as we know it
Data Collection 50 points

This section meets all of the following requirements:

  • describe in detail all changes that occurred during the experiment
  • the collected data and recorded observations are neatly organized and are consistent with the experimental protocol
  • there are pictures of you performing the key steps of the experiment placed near the data collected at that step, where relevant
  • each picture has a caption briefly describing what it shows near the picture, where relevant

The section is missing. Without this section the experiment will be considered not done, and the lab report (prelab, data and analysis and discussion) will be assigned a score of 0.

Data Processing 50 points

This section meets all of the following requirements:

  • each lab question is answered correctly and contains all the required relevant information
  • the equation for each calculation is shown before the numbers are used; all steps of the calculation are shown, and each step is correct; each value has a unit and the units are cancelled as needed
  • the calculated values are neatly organized, and the calculations are easy to follow; graphs and charts are correctly formatted with axis labels and captions
  • includes the error calculations based on the individual and group results, where applicable
